Online meeting with Dr. Gandhi

Instead of visiting the Group in person, Dr. Rajiv Gandhi, Consultant Doctor and Clinical Lead for Diabetes in Sheffield, kindly attended an online meeting. He updated us on the situation regarding coronavirus in Sheffield and the good news is that Sheffield hospitals are coping well with Covid 19 and that there has always been enough spare capacity in intensive care to treat all those patients needing this. The situation has forced a re-think about possible ways of treating patients while reducing the level of close contact. It has involved making greater use of technology and some of this will continue in the future.

If you have upcoming appointments at the Diabetes Clinic or at your GP surgery you may be contacted and told about any changes you need to make. A drive in blood testing centre has been set up at Sheffield Arena with some patients being directed there for routine tests.

Dr. Gandhi also spoke about what happens when people with diabetes are admitted to hospital for any reason. There is a system which notifies the Diabetes Team when such a patient is on a ward and they can then monitor them as appropriate.

We may organise other online meetings whilst the lockdown is in place. If you have not used Zoom to speak to people online before, you may find the following introduction useful:
